Vijay TVK NDA alliance Tamil Nadu politics discussion
Chennai, Tamil Nadu: Speculation continues to surround Tamil Nadu’s political landscape as questions arise over a possible alliance between actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). However, the NDA has firmly denied any ongoing negotiations with Vijay’s party.
Despite the denial, political observers believe that the NDA is exploring options to strengthen its position ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The ruling DMK is expected to contest with its established and robust alliance, while the AIADMK-BJP combine is seen as lacking sufficient electoral strength to mount a strong challenge.
The NDA currently includes smaller parties such as PMK, AMMK, TMC, IJK, and PNK, but their limited vote share has raised concerns within the alliance. Reports suggest that indirect efforts were made to reach out to Vijay, including outreach through key political figures such as Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also believed to have been involved in strategic discussions, though these claims remain unconfirmed.
There have also been allegations that attempts were made to pressure Vijay into joining the alliance under the pretext of central investigations, although no official confirmation has been provided.
Meanwhile, discussions reportedly included a power-sharing formula, suggesting that AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Vijay could alternately hold the Chief Minister’s post for two-and-a-half years each. This claim was mentioned by TVK election campaign general secretary Adhav Arjuna during a recent internal meeting. He stated that an offer of 90 seats and a rotational Chief Ministership was made, but Vijay declined the proposal. NDA leaders have strongly refuted these claims.
The reported developments have also triggered internal differences within TVK. Party general secretary Bussi Anand is believed to be in favour of aligning with the BJP, while other leaders maintain that the party will contest independently. However, some party workers and organisers are reportedly dissatisfied with this stance, arguing that strategic alliances are essential in modern electoral politics.
As Tamil Nadu gears up for a crucial electoral battle, the possibility of new alliances continues to generate intense political debate, even as official denials persist.
