Marco Rubio Enters China as Marco Lu During Trump Beijing Visit
Beijing, China: US President Donald Trump is currently visiting China along with his delegation. During the high-profile diplomatic visit, an interesting development involving US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has drawn global attention.
Reports suggest that Marco Rubio entered China under the name “Marco Lu” instead of using his original surname. The move is believed to be linked to the travel restrictions imposed on him by China in previous years.
Tensions between the United States and China have continued for several years over multiple geopolitical and human rights issues. One of the major points of conflict has been China’s treatment of Uyghur Muslims in the Xinjiang region.
While serving as a US senator, Marco Rubio strongly criticized the Chinese government and accused it of serious human rights violations against Uyghur Muslims. He had repeatedly alleged that over a million Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities were being detained in camps and subjected to forced labor and abuse.
China strongly rejected Rubio’s allegations and condemned his remarks. In 2020, Beijing imposed sanctions and travel restrictions on him, which reportedly remain in effect even now.
Despite the restrictions, Rubio participated in the diplomatic visit alongside President Donald Trump by reportedly using the Chinese version of his surname, “Lu,” during the visit.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday afternoon and later held discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The leaders reportedly discussed several major international issues, including Taiwan and ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
The visit has gained significant global attention amid the ongoing energy crisis linked to conflicts in the Middle East. Since China imports a large share of Iran’s crude oil, observers are closely watching whether Iran-related matters were also discussed during the high-level talks.
