Indian student Gurkirat Singh from Madhya Pradesh killed in Canada

Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, India: An Indian student pursuing higher studies in Canada has died after an alleged violent attack, according to his family members. They claim that a group of youths from his college assaulted him, leading to his death.

According to reports, the incident occurred on March 14 in Fort St. John, Canada. The victim has been identified as Gurkirat Singh (23), a resident of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, India.

Gurkirat had moved to Canada to pursue management studies and was enrolled in a PG Diploma in Business Management at Northern Lights College. Alongside his studies, he was also working part-time at a Walmart store.

Family members stated that on the night of the incident, Gurkirat had just finished his shift at Walmart when around 10 to 12 youths, reportedly from the same college, approached him. According to them, the group took him along and an argument reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation.

During the altercation, Gurkirat was allegedly attacked, and the assailants reportedly ran a vehicle over him, causing severe injuries that led to his death.

Gurkirat's brother, Prabhukirat Singh, said the family received a call in the middle of the night informing them about the tragic incident.

"We were told that around twelve people attacked him. Some suspects were reportedly detained by police, but they were later released after their lawyers arrived," he said.

Canadian authorities have confirmed Gurkirat Singh's death. Officials stated that further action will depend on the findings of the post-mortem report.

Meanwhile, the victim's family has appealed to the Indian government for assistance in bringing Gurkirat Singh's body back to his hometown in Ujjain.
