Bengaluru, Karnataka: The iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium witnessed a historic and emotional moment on Sunday, as the Karnataka State Cricket Association honoured Indian cricket legends Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble ahead of the high-profile IPL clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings.
In a special tribute, two prominent ends of the stadium were officially renamed after the legendary cricketers. The former BEML End has now been dedicated as the Rahul Dravid End, while the Pavilion End has been rechristened as the Anil Kumble End.
The ceremony was attended by KSCA officials, along with the families of both cricketing icons, adding emotional significance to the occasion.
Speaking during the event, Rahul Dravid expressed deep gratitude, stating that the stadium has always felt like a second home to him and has played a vital role in shaping his illustrious career. He acknowledged the KSCA for the honour and reflected on his journey rooted in Bengaluru.
Anil Kumble also shared heartfelt memories, recalling his first visit to the stadium as a nine-year-old spectator. He expressed immense pride and joy at seeing his name associated with one end of the same historic venue.
Both cricketers have left an indelible mark on international cricket. Rahul Dravid amassed 24,177 runs across formats, while Anil Kumble claimed an impressive 956 wickets in his career.
Earlier this year, the KSCA had announced plans to honour these legends, along with former Indian women’s cricketer Shantha Rangaswamy, by naming key sections of the stadium after them.
