Manila: A landslide occurred near a gold mine in Maco Town, Davao Province, Philippines. 54 people died in this incident. 32 others were injured. Houses and vehicles were swept under the cliffs. The death toll in the accident last week continues to rise.
The Davao provincial government said in a statement that more bodies were being recovered as rescue operations continued. Although rescue operations are being carried out on a large scale with three hundred people, the heavy rains and mud in this area hamper the rescue work.
There is a possibility of landslides again, so the emergency personnel have to deal with the situation. A total of 63 people are still missing since the landslide. Officials say that there is no chance for any of them to survive.
