Hyderabad, Telangana, India: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has sparked political discussions by proposing that a prominent street in Hyderabad be named after U.S. President Donald Trump. The plan is intended to enhance the city’s global profile ahead of the upcoming Telangana Rising Global Summit.
Officials have revealed that the road running adjacent to the U.S. Consulate General in Hyderabad could be renamed “Donald Trump Avenue.” This initiative is part of a wider effort to rebrand major city roads, potentially naming them after influential international figures, tech pioneers, and business leaders. Other suggested names include “Google Street,” “Microsoft Road,” and “Wipro Junction,” while a newly planned greenfield radial road may honor industrialist Ratan Tata.
Government sources explain that the initiative aims to position Hyderabad as an international center for business and innovation. By linking key roads with globally recognized personalities and corporations, the administration hopes to attract foreign investment and underscore the city’s aspirations on the world stage.
However, the proposal has met with criticism from opposition parties. BJP leaders have accused the state government of prioritizing symbolic gestures over more pressing development issues. Critics argue that renaming roads based on trending global figures lacks historical or cultural relevance and serves more as a political spectacle than a meaningful action.
The announcement comes just days before the Telangana Rising Global Summit, where the state plans to highlight major infrastructure projects and new investment opportunities. Authorities have indicated that they will consult India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the U.S. Embassy regarding the proposal, though final approval is yet to be confirmed.
If approved, the street would become one of the few public roads outside the United States named after a sitting American president. Supporters believe it will attract international media attention, while detractors claim it is unlikely to yield benefits beyond headlines.
