Meghalaya to Hold Two Class 10 Exams Annually Starting 2025: Major Reforms Announced

Meghalaya to hold 2 SSLC exams from 2025

Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma announced on Saturday that the state’s school education board will introduce a new system for class 10 examinations starting next year.

According to Sangma, the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) will begin conducting two Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exams annually beginning in 2025. This change was approved by the state cabinet on Friday, following a proposal to revise the 2011 regulations governing the SSLC examination.

The introduction of a second SSLC exam is aimed at giving students who did not pass their initial board exam another opportunity to succeed. Sangma explained that the first exam will be scheduled for February or early March, while the second will be held in May, allowing students who fail one or more subjects to retake the exam within a couple of months.

Sangma emphasized that this initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) and is intended to minimize the time students lose between exam attempts.

Additionally, the state cabinet has decided to eliminate the 'best of five papers' option starting from the 2026-2027 academic year. This means that from 2026 onwards, students will be required to pass all six subjects in their board exams.
