7.4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Northern Japan, Tsunami Warning Issued
Tokyo: A powerful earthquake struck off the northern coast of Japan, registering a magnitude of 7.4 on the Richter scale. Following the quake, authorities issued tsunami warnings across affected regions.
The Japan Meteorological Agency stated that waves of up to three meters (10 feet) could reach coastal areas. The earthquake occurred in the Sanriku region at 4:54 PM local time, with its epicenter located at a depth of 10 kilometers below sea level.
Authorities have urged residents in coastal regions to move to higher ground and remain in elevated areas until further instructions are issued.
