Macron and Modi discuss Strait of Hormuz crisis and maritime security
New Delhi, India: Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, Emmanuel Macron held an extensive telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, focusing on regional stability and maritime security.
During the discussion, both leaders emphasized the urgent need to ensure freedom of navigation and secure shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global energy supplies and international trade.
President Macron highlighted concerns over disruptions in maritime movement, noting that ensuring safety in the region is vital for maintaining global economic stability. The leaders also expressed concern over the prolonged conflict in the region, which has persisted for nearly 50 days, warning that it poses a serious threat to international peace.
Reaffirming their strategic partnership, Prime Minister Modi stated that India and France would continue to work closely to promote peace, stability, and security in the region. He shared this update in a post on X.
Notably, this marks another high-level interaction between the two leaders, following their previous telephonic conversation on March 5, underscoring the growing importance of India–France cooperation in addressing global challenges.
