CBI Questions Actor Vijay Over Karur Stampede After Supreme Court Intervention

Supreme Court: Actor Vijay Appears Before CBI

TVK president and senior actor Vijay Karur has been called in by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for questioning related to the stampede tragedy. Following the Supreme Court’s instructions, he was asked to report to the CBI office in Delhi, where officials are seeking detailed information. This move marks a significant step toward a comprehensive and open inquiry into the incident.

The stampede occurred on September 27 last year during an election campaign meeting in Karur. The deadly incident was caused by extreme overcrowding, inadequate security measures, and poor coordination among support staff. The tragedy resulted in the deaths of 41 people and sparked nationwide shock and concern.

As part of the probe, the CBI is gathering crucial evidence, including video recordings, photographs, eyewitness statements, formal complaints, and official documents linked to the location. The investigation aims to identify lapses in event organization, failures in security planning, and any individual or administrative responsibility.

The core objective of this inquiry is to ensure justice for the victims and their families. Both the State and Central Governments have conducted special reviews of the incident and resolved to enforce stricter safety regulations to avoid similar disasters in the future. Experts say the tragedy highlights serious gaps in safety enforcement and serves as a harsh reminder of the standards that must be strictly followed when organizing large public gatherings.
