A UK court has sentenced an Indian man to life in prison for murdering his 19 year old wife at their home in Croydon, London in October 2023. According to the Metropolitan Police, 24 year old Sahil Sharma called police on October 29, 2023 and said he had killed his wife Mehak Sharma at their home in Ash Tree Way, Croydon. 

Police said Mehak was stabbed in the neck and died on the spot. Mehak's post mortem examination on October 31, 2023, revealed that stab wounds to the neck caused his death.

On February 8 this year, Sahil admitted murdering Mehak at Kingston Crown Court. During its verdict on April 26, the court said that a minimum sentence of 15 years must be served to apply for parole.

This is a tragic incident that destroyed a family. In murdering his wife, Sharma robbed his family of a beloved daughter for reasons known only to him," PTI news agency quoted Detective Inspector (DI) Laura Semple of the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime Command as saying.

She said, "I know that nothing will bring Mehak Sharma back to them, but I hope this sentence brings some closure to her loved ones."

Mehak's mother's statement was read out to the court on April 26, where she said she was devastated after her daughter's gruesome murder. What I want more than anything is to get my daughter back, but this is impossible.  No matter how many prayers, money or support I give her, she will not come back to me. I was broken. I think Sahil not only killed Mehak but also killed me,' she said in her statement.
