In a tragic incident in Mumbai’s Kurla, the BEST bus accident resulted in seven fatalities after the vehicle lost control. CCTV footage shows passengers, including the driver, panicking and jumping out of the bus from shattered windows. The bus, traveling from Kurla to Andheri, collided with several vehicles and pedestrians after veering off the road. As the bus swirled and the interior lights flickered, the terrified passengers clung to the handlebars, before leaping out as the vehicle came to a halt.
Driver Sanjay More, 54, was arrested after being seen in the footage jumping out of the bus with two backpacks. The accident was triggered when the bus, an electric model just three months old, collided with an auto-rickshaw and ran over pedestrians. Investigators suspect that human error, possibly due to the driver’s lack of experience with the automatic transmission bus, was a key factor. RTO officials noted that the driver had inadequate training for the 12-meter-long vehicle.
The bus was registered under EVEY TRANS in August 2024, and More had been supplied through a Pune-based third-party agency. He has been arrested on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and attempt to commit culpable homicide.
