France removes transit visa for Indian nationals
France: France has officially removed the requirement for an airport transit visa for Indian nationals, marking a significant step toward easing travel between India and Europe.
Effective from April 10, 2026, Indian citizens holding ordinary passports are no longer required to obtain an airport transit visa when passing through the international transit zones of airports in France. This applies specifically to passengers who remain within the international zone during layovers while travelling to a third country.
The move follows an announcement made by Emmanuel Macron during his visit to India in February 2026, where he indicated that measures would be introduced to facilitate smoother travel for Indian nationals via France.
Subsequently, the French government issued a decree amending the earlier regulation dated May 10, 2010, concerning visa and entry requirements for foreign nationals. The updated decree was formally published in the Official Gazette on April 9, 2026.
With this policy change now in effect, Indian travellers can expect a more convenient transit experience through French airports, eliminating the need for additional visa procedures during layovers.
