Police Book Actor Vijay Over Public Nuisance, Ambulance Obstruction in Chennai Rally

Chennai police booked actor Vijay over alleged ambulance obstruction and election code

Chennai, Tamil Nadu: The political atmosphere in Tamil Nadu has intensified ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, with Chennai police registering a case against actor-turned-politician Vijay, president of the Tamil Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), for alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct.

According to officials from the Peravallur Police, cases have also been filed against nearly 5,000 party workers in connection with the incident.

What Led to the Case?

The complaint was filed by a Flying Squad officer, identified as Kumar, who reported multiple violations during a public meeting addressed by Vijay in Chennai.

Authorities stated that loudspeakers were used beyond the permitted limits, with approximately 30 devices reportedly deployed, exceeding prescribed noise regulations. Officials further noted that key emergency routes, including those designated for ambulance movement, were obstructed due to the large turnout at the rally.

The gathering also allegedly caused inconvenience to the general public, raising concerns over public safety and compliance with election norms.

Legal Charges Filed

Based on the monitoring officer’s report, police have registered cases under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including charges related to public nuisance, obstruction of public pathways, and unlawful assembly.

Officials reiterated that guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India strictly prohibit campaign activities that disrupt public life. Ensuring free movement of emergency services, particularly ambulances, remains a critical requirement under these regulations.

Authorities confirmed that legal action was initiated following alleged violations of these directives.
