Ram Setu first undersea map, ISRO scientists have uncovered secrets

Ram Setu Map: Ram Setu, the oldest bridge between India and Sri Lanka, has been identified by scientists of the famous Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). ISRO scientists have released a comprehensive map of the Ram Setu, which has been submerged for many years.

Moreover, Ramasethu's secrets were also uncovered. However, during that period, Rama Setu was also referred to as Adam's Bridge. The entire bridge can be viewed through a 10m resolution map. Its data was collected for a period of 6 years from October 2018 to October 2023.

This is the first on the seabed map:

29 meters long and 8 meters above the seabed, this is the first-ever undersea map. Scientists at the National Remote Sensing Center of ISRO Jodhpur, Hyderabad, in a journal published “This report is the first to provide critical details of the Adams Bridge using water-penetrating photons from the NASA satellite (ICESat-2). Our findings have helped to understand the origin of Adam's Bridge. Ship mapping is challenging because the water in this area is very shallow, he said.

Map with Advanced Laser Technology :

Earlier research for this bridge was limited to the elevated sections. However, the ICESat-2 laser helped the researchers to penetrate deeper into the water body. Optical satellite imagery confirms that 99.8 per cent of its path is submerged in shallow, ultra-shallow water. ISRO scientists used advanced laser technology from an American satellite to create this map. A team led by Giribabu Dandabattula found a total of 11 narrow channels between the Gulf of Mannar and the Straits of Pakistan with a depth of 2 to 3 meters allowing the flow of water.

According to temple records.. :

The underwater ridge is made up of a chain of limestone pits. The team used 3-D parameters such as contours, slope analysis, and volumetrics to determine the current physical properties of the bridge. This ancient bridge connects Dhanushkodi in India with Talaimannar Island in Sri Lanka. Ramasethu holds cultural significance as the bridge is mentioned in the Ramayana.

Rama's monkey army used it to reach Lanka. Ravana kept Sita there after abducting her. The Persians referred to this bridge as 'Setu Bandhai' up until the 9th century AD.  According to temple records at Rameswaram, this bridge was above sea level until 1480 AD when it was destroyed by a storm.
