Reason Behind Kangana Ranaut’s Apology to Farmer Mahinder Kaur

Kangana Ranaut Issues Apology Over Remarks on Farmer Protester Mahinder Kaur

Bathinda, Punjab, India: BJP Member of Parliament and actress Kangana Ranaut has expressed regret for her earlier comments about Mahinder Kaur, a 73-year-old woman who took part in the farmers’ protests held during 2020–21.

The controversy began when Kangana posted a tweet claiming that Mahinder Kaur, who had been seen in protests at Shaheen Bagh during the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) demonstrations, was the same woman participating in the farmers’ agitation. Following this statement, Mahinder Kaur filed a complaint, leading to a court case.

Recently, the Bathinda court had dismissed Kangana’s request to attend the proceedings through video conferencing and ordered her to appear in person. Complying with the directive, Kangana appeared before the First Class Judicial Magistrate Lakhbir Singh’s court on October 27, under tight security arrangements.

After the hearing, Kangana addressed the media and stated that she had offered an apology to Mahinder Kaur’s husband in court, expressing remorse for her past post. The tweet in question, made during the height of the farmers’ movement in 2021, had suggested that women like Mahinder Kaur joined protests in exchange for monetary benefits of ₹100, a statement that drew widespread criticism.
