On Wednesday, the Indian mission in Malaysia confirmed that the search for Vijaya Lakshmi Gali, who fell into the sinkhole last Friday, is ongoing. Authorities are continuing their large-scale search and rescue operation.
The High Commission reported that local authorities are thoroughly exploring new possible paths and locations in their effort to locate the missing Indian national. The incident occurred in the Malaysian capital's Jalan Masjid India area.
The operation is still centered around the site of the incident. Police have cordoned off the area with yellow tape, leading to the temporary closure of nearby businesses to ensure public safety. Various techniques have been employed in the search, including tracker dogs and the ‘jetting’ method.
According to the Indian High Commission, the search efforts now involve a range of entities: local authorities, the police, the fire and rescue department, the Indah Water Consortium, KL Federal Territories agencies, Civil Defence Forces, and specialized scientific teams with advanced equipment.
The mission highlighted that after flushing parts of the drainage system, the search is being enhanced with specialized techniques, including high-pressure water jets to clear obstacles, remote cameras, and ground-penetrating radars to explore inaccessible areas. The Indian mission remains in close contact with the agencies involved and is providing support to the family of Vijaya Lakshmi Gali.
