Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026
Chennai: With the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026 approaching, political activity across the state has intensified, with nomination filings and campaign efforts gaining momentum.
Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, representing the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), has officially filed his nomination from the Kolathur constituency. Having secured victory from this seat in the last three consecutive elections, Stalin is seeking re-election once again.
Following the submission of his nomination papers, Stalin participated in a roadshow and addressed supporters. He emphasized the state’s political stance, stating that Tamil Nadu continues its resistance against central dominance and expressed confidence in securing a decisive mandate in the upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, actor-turned-politician Vijay, who leads the Tamil Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), has also formally entered the electoral race. Vijay is contesting from two constituencies—Perambur and East Trichy—and has filed his nomination for the Perambur seat.
A large number of supporters and party workers gathered during his nomination filing. Addressing the public, Vijay stated that his selected candidates are not merely contestants but individuals committed to safeguarding the welfare of the people. He urged voters to extend their support to his party.
The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly comprises 234 seats, with polling scheduled to take place on April 23. The DMK is contesting 164 seats, while the remaining 70 seats have been allocated to its alliance partners, including the Indian National Congress. In contrast, TVK has announced its intention to contest all constituencies.
Several political parties have already released their initial list of candidates, further intensifying the electoral contest across the state.
