Tripura Cheif Minister: Manik Saha
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Thursday that the states primary focus is on rescue and relief efforts due to severe flooding from unprecedented rainfall over the past three days. At a press conference, Saha described the rainfall as unprecedented for Tripura, attributing it to a depression in the Bay of Bengal that has impacted nearly every district.
Currently, 321 relief camps are operational, providing shelter to around 30,000 people. Rescue operations are being carried out by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Border Security Force (BSF), police, and volunteers. On social media, Saha highlighted the administrations ongoing efforts to address the situation, including damage to homes, livestock, roads, electricity, and crops.
Tripura has been grappling with a serious flood situation, where the death toll has reached 10. Most parts of Agartala have been submerged.

Saha emphasized that the immediate priority is to relocate people from unsafe areas to safety and provide them with food. Restoration work will begin once the heavy rainfall, expected to last until August 25, eases. The flooding has significantly affected agriculture, infrastructure, and property. Saha has also contacted Union Home Minister Amit Shah to request additional NDRF teams to assist with the response. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued heavy rainfall for the next two days.
