Tripura Floods IMD Predicts Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall

Tripura Floods: The relentless rainfall in Tripura has claimed at least 22 lives, with two individuals still unaccounted for. Chief Minister urged residents to support and assist in ongoing relief and rescue efforts by the government and NDRF. He emphasized the severity of the situation and called for cooperation from the public, stating that he will personally visit all affected areas.

Approximately 1.7 million people have been impacted by the floods. Currently, 65,400 individuals are taking refuge in 450 relief camps across the state, as their homes have been damaged by the heavy rains. Landslides have occurred in 2,032 locations, with 1,789 now cleared. Restoration work is continuing in the remaining areas. Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey reported that the Centre has deployed two helicopters to evacuate stranded people from Gomati and South Tripura districts.

The Assam Rifles have rescued around 334 civilians and launched extensive humanitarian efforts under Operation JAL RAHAT. Two columns from the 18 Assam Rifles, under the command of HQ 21 Sector Assam Rifles and IGAR (East), are working in flood-affected regions including Amarpur, Bhampur, Bishalgarh, and Ramnagar. Additionally, the Army has provided essential rations and supplies to about 85 people to address immediate food needs.

The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall for Thursday and Friday in many parts of Tripura. In response to the severe weather, all educational institutions across the state will remain closed on Friday.
