Trump Reposts ‘India as Hell’ Remark, Sparks Fresh Diplomatic Row

Donald Trump controversy over India remark and citizenship debate

Former US President Donald Trump has once again stirred controversy with remarks perceived as insensitive towards India. Trump recently reposted a message shared by American radio host Michael Savage, in which India and China were described in derogatory terms, triggering criticism.

The remarks were made in the context of the ongoing debate over birthright citizenship in the United States. Michael Savage alleged that women from Asian countries travel to the US during the final stages of pregnancy to give birth, thereby securing American citizenship for their children. He further claimed that such policies enable families from countries like India and China to migrate, using language widely condemned as inappropriate.

Savage argued against the automatic granting of citizenship to children born to non-citizens and suggested that the issue should be decided through public opinion rather than judicial processes. Trump’s decision to repost the statement has drawn attention and criticism on social and political fronts.

Previously, Trump had asserted that the United States is unique in offering citizenship by birth. However, this claim is factually incorrect, as more than 30 countries—including Canada and Mexico—follow similar policies.

Trump has also made controversial statements about India’s economy in the past, describing it as a “dead economy.” In response, Narendra Modi indirectly countered such claims by emphasizing that India is on track to become the world’s third-largest economy.

The latest development adds to ongoing tensions and highlights the sensitivity of diplomatic discourse between nations.
