Uttarakhand Avalanche: 47 Workers Rescued
In Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, another 14 workers were rescued from the avalanche site, while 8 workers are still trapped under the snow. So far, 47 out of 55 workers have been rescued. The avalanche hit the Border Roads Organization (BRO) camp between Badrinath and Mana. By Friday night, 33 workers were saved, but the rescue operation was hindered by rain and a snowstorm. The operation was paused overnight and resumed in the morning with special helicopters. ITBP forces have started the rescue, as confirmed by District Disaster Management Officer N.K. Joshi. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is expected to visit the site today.
On Friday, Uttarakhand witnessed a devastating avalanche. Continuous snowfall over the past few days has severely affected transportation in the border areas. In Chamoli district's Mana village, a large avalanche struck the BRO camp on the Chamoli-Badrinath road, trapping 57 BRO workers. The incident occurred at 7:15 AM on Friday while the workers were inside eight containers and a shed.
Authorities immediately launched rescue operations to evacuate the trapped workers. Despite harsh weather conditions, teams worked tirelessly to clear the snow and reach the stranded workers. Special helicopters and ITBP forces were deployed to speed up the rescue mission. The state government is closely monitoring the situation, and further rescue efforts are ongoing to save the remaining trapped workers.
