Vijay Affidavit Controversy: Case Details Mismatch in Tamil Nadu Elections

Actor Vijay filing nomination papers in Tamil Nadu election controversy

Chennai, Tamil Nadu: Vijay, president of the Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) and a prominent film actor, has come under scrutiny following discrepancies in his election affidavits submitted for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Vijay is contesting from both the Perambur and Trichy East constituencies. However, differences in the details disclosed in his nomination documents have triggered debate and raised concerns among political observers.

In the affidavit submitted for the Perambur constituency, Vijay declared that no criminal cases were pending against him. In contrast, the affidavit filed for the Trichy East constituency stated that two criminal cases were pending.

One of the cases was reportedly registered at the Peravallur police station in August 2025. Another case was recently filed by election authorities in connection with an alleged violation of election norms during a roadshow conducted after filing his nomination papers.

Notably, the case registered in 2025 was not mentioned in the Perambur affidavit, leading to allegations of inconsistency in disclosures. This has prompted activists to question whether his nomination could face rejection.

Legal experts, however, suggest that such discrepancies can be addressed by submitting a revised affidavit to the Election Commission, clarifying the inconsistencies and rectifying any errors in the documentation.
