Ernakulam, Kerala, India: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched development projects worth ₹16,450 crore during his visit to Kerala and Tamil Nadu, while also addressing large political gatherings organized by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The Prime Minister began his tour in Ernakulam, Kerala, where he participated in community celebrations with members of the fisherfolk community. During the visit, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple development initiatives worth ₹10,800 crore.

The projects include highway expansions, railway infrastructure upgrades, power sector improvements, and rural road development, aimed at strengthening connectivity and boosting regional economic growth.

Addressing an NDA rally in Ernakulam, Modi highlighted the government’s focus on good governance, youth empowerment, and infrastructure-led development. He also criticized opposition parties while emphasizing the central government’s commitment to accelerating progress in the southern states.

Later, the Prime Minister traveled to Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, where he inaugurated additional infrastructure projects worth ₹5,650 crore. These initiatives include natural gas pipeline networks, road infrastructure, and rural connectivity projects, which are expected to enhance energy access and transportation efficiency in the region.

Following the project launch, Modi addressed a major NDA rally in Tiruchirappalli, described by party leaders as a significant show of political strength in the state.

Meanwhile, several opposition leaders chose to boycott parts of the Prime Minister’s visit, alleging that the events were politically motivated ahead of upcoming elections. They also raised concerns over broader national issues, including tensions in the Gulf region.

The visit highlights the central government’s emphasis on infrastructure development and political outreach in southern India, with both Kerala and Tamil Nadu expected to play key roles in future political contests.
