Rising COVID-19 Cases in India

India is experiencing an increase in COVID-19 cases, driven by new variants NB 1.8.1 and LF.7, especially in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Delhi, and Karnataka. Cases are also rising in Telugu states.

Current Case Numbers and Deaths

Kerala tops the list with 273 reported cases, while Tamil Nadu has 66, Maharashtra 56, Delhi 23, and Karnataka 36 active infections. New cases have also emerged in Uttar Pradesh. Recently, two fatalities were recorded in Maharashtra and Bengaluru.

Active Cases and Government Measures

As of May 25, 2025, there are 275 mostly mild active cases nationwide. Masks are mandatory in hospitals, and health guidelines focus on urban areas with rising infections. Mumbai alone reported 95 cases this month.

Situation in Telugu States

The Telugu states have reported five COVID-19 cases so far, one of which involves a doctor from Telangana. Special wards have been set up in hospitals in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Health Ministry Advisory

The Union Health Ministry urges vigilance, noting symptoms are mild—cough, cold, headache, mild fever—and recommends masks and precautions to curb spread.
