Goa Nightclub Fire
Arpora, North Goa, India: At least 25 people have tragically lost their lives in a nightclub fire in Goa. The incident occurred at the nightclub 'Birch by Romeo Lane' in Arpora, North Goa, around midnight on Sunday.
Among the deceased, 20 were employees of the nightclub while five were tourists. Four of the tourists hailed from Delhi, and one was from Karnataka. Notably, three of the four tourists from Delhi belonged to the same family.
The nightclub staff who died included individuals from Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Nepal. Citizens from Assam, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal were also among the victims, reflecting a wide impact across multiple states.
Eyewitnesses reported that approximately 100 people were on the club’s dance floor when the fire broke out, leading to chaos and panic. Many attempted to escape to the kitchen located on the ground floor, but limited exit routes resulted in people being trapped.
Initial investigations suggest that a gas cylinder explosion may have triggered the fire, according to police reports. However, some witnesses claimed that the blaze began on the club’s first floor. The narrow streets in the area also hampered rescue efforts, forcing fire trucks to stop about 400 metres away from the site.
