Mount Everest Seen from Bihar Town as Skies Clear and Air Quality Improves
Jaynagar,Bihar, India: A rare and awe-inspiring scene has emerged in Jaynagar, a border town in Bihar, where the snow-covered Himalayan range — including Mount Everest — has become visible thanks to unusually clear skies and reduced air pollution.
Nestled along the Kamla River, which begins from a glacier in Nepal near the India-Nepal border, Jaynagar is known for its cultural richness and cross-border connections. On exceptionally clear days, when the atmosphere is free of haze, smog, and clouds, residents are treated to a spectacular view of the distant Himalayas aligned perfectly on the horizon.
Locals mention that this remarkable visibility usually occurs during the months of Chaitra–Baisakh and Ashwin–Kartik — roughly between Vasant Panchami and Holi, and again from Durga Puja to Kartik Purnima — when the weather stays cool, crisp, and the sky is at its clearest.
From taller rooftops and from the barrage built across the Kamla River, onlookers can watch the Himalayan peaks glowing in different shades — turning from copper to gold at dawn, then from silver to bronze at dusk, before gently fading into the twilight sky.
Interestingly, Jaynagar also functions as the starting point of Nepal’s only railway route, linking the town directly with Janakpur in Nepal. Many passengers from Nepal travel to Jaynagar daily to board trains bound for various Indian destinations.
