LPG e-KYC Mandatory for Domestic Consumers: Aadhaar Biometric Verification Rule Explained

LPG e-KYC Aadhaar Biometric Verification India

New Delhi: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has made Aadhaar-based biometric authentication (e-KYC) mandatory for all domestic LPG consumers, aiming to streamline subsidy distribution and curb misuse amid global energy concerns.

The ministry clarified that the process has been simplified and can be completed from home without the need to visit LPG distributors. Consumers can carry out the verification using their smartphones through the official mobile applications of oil marketing companies, along with the Aadhaar FaceRD application.

The directive applies to customers of public sector oil companies, including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited.

Officials stated that failure to complete the e-KYC process may lead to disruption in LPG refill services and suspension of subsidy benefits until verification is completed.

For beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), the guidelines are more stringent. They are required to complete biometric authentication at the beginning of every financial year before availing their first refill to continue receiving subsidies.

Additionally, oil marketing companies have tightened norms for inactive LPG connections. Consumers who have not booked a refill for over nine months may be required to complete KYC verification physically at their respective distributor offices before placing a new order.

The move comes amid supply pressures linked to global energy disruptions and is part of the government’s broader effort to prevent irregular usage of LPG connections.
