Mamata Banerjee Rejects SC Verdict on Teacher Appointments, Slams BJP and CPI(M)

Mamata Banerjee SC ruling teacher appointments

Mamata Banerjee rejected the Supreme Court's verdict invalidating the appointment of 25,753 teachers in West Bengal's state-run schools, accusing the BJP and CPI(M) of targeting the state's education system. Despite respecting the judiciary, she stated she could not accept the ruling and promised support to the affected candidates. In response, the BJP demanded her resignation, blaming her for the recruitment corruption. The case stems from a 2016 recruitment process where 25,753 appointments were made for 24,640 posts. The Supreme Court upheld the Calcutta High Court's decision for a fresh selection process within three months, with no requirement for the annulled appointees to return their wages, except for some disabled employees.
