Mamata Banerjee urges women to stay alert with kitchen tools amid voter list concerns

West Bengal Politics: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has issued a stern warning, stating that if there are attempts to delete names from the voter list under the Special Integrated Revision (SIR), women should be prepared to defend themselves using common kitchen items. She emphasized that any efforts to deny people their voting rights following the SIR process will not be tolerated.

Alleged schemes targeting young women voters

Mamata Banerjee claimed that there are deliberate moves to erase the names of women and girls from electoral records. She pointed out that during previous elections, police personnel from Delhi were brought in to intimidate voters. “If your name is missing from the list, your kitchen tools become your weapon,” she warned. She further stressed that women will play a leading role in opposing such unfair practices.

Accusations of attempts to polarize Bengal

The Chief Minister questioned whether it is women who are truly strong or if it is the influence of the BJP. She reiterated her commitment to secularism and accused the BJP of attempting to sow division in Bengal by distributing money and bringing party workers from other states during elections.

Highlighting Bengal’s rich legacy, Mamata mentioned luminaries like Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Swami Vivekananda, Rabindranath Tagore, and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, who never divided the people. Referring to the sacrifices made by generations of Bengalis in the fight for independence, she stated that it is now the duty of every citizen to uphold unity in the state.
