Europe, Evian, France: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, where they discussed the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), strategic cooperation, and developments in West Asia. The leaders welcomed the successful conclusion of FTA negotiations and stressed the importance of signing and implementing the agreement at the earliest.
According to India's Ministry of External Affairs, both sides reviewed progress made since the India-EU Summit held in January 2026 and expressed confidence that the Joint India-EU Comprehensive Strategic Agenda would further strengthen bilateral ties. The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace, stability, sustainable development, and a resilient multipolar global order.
PM Modi described the meeting as productive and highlighted the growing strength of India-EU relations. Antonio Costa said the FTA is expected to be signed by the end of the year, while both sides will also advance investment cooperation, security partnerships, and connectivity projects such as the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEC), marking a significant step forward in India-EU strategic and economic relations.
