What Did PM Narendra Modi Tell CMs on Fuel Prices, No Lockdown West Asia Crisis?

PM Modi Reviews Energy Security with Chief Ministers

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level virtual meeting with Chief Ministers of various states to assess the evolving situation arising from tensions in West Asia and its potential impact on India.

The meeting, conducted via video conference, saw participation from several state leaders, including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. Discussions primarily focused on energy security, supply chain stability, and preparedness to handle any disruptions.

During the interaction, the Prime Minister addressed concerns related to fuel availability and clarified that there would be no imposition of a nationwide lockdown. He highlighted that recent reductions in excise duty have helped ease the burden of rising petrol prices on citizens.

PM Modi emphasized the importance of maintaining uninterrupted supply of essential commodities, including petrol and gas. He instructed states to remain vigilant and take strict action against black marketing and hoarding practices.

The meeting, which lasted over two and a half hours, marked the first comprehensive review since the escalation of tensions in West Asia. The Prime Minister urged all states to function in unison under the “Team India” approach to effectively manage the situation.

He also stressed the need to ensure economic stability, smooth trade operations, and robust energy management. Drawing parallels with the cooperative federalism strategy adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic, PM Modi called for coordinated efforts between the Centre and states.

Highlighting strategic concerns, the Prime Minister noted the importance of monitoring developments around key maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, and ensuring preparedness in logistics and shipping sectors.

“Border and coastal states must remain alert. There should be focused attention on supply chains, maritime operations, and essential commodities. Advance planning in agriculture, including fertilizer storage and distribution, is crucial. We must also prevent the spread of misinformation,” the Prime Minister stated.

Some Chief Ministers, particularly from poll-bound states, were unable to attend due to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.
