Andhra Pradesh, India: In a major industrial development, the Andhra Pradesh government is actively working to establish an aircraft manufacturing facility in the combined Anantapur district. The state has expressed its readiness to allocate land for the project, with Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat emerging as key contenders to host the facility.
As part of efforts to strengthen the state’s aerospace sector, Adani Aerospace has entered into an agreement with Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer. Under this partnership, the companies plan to set up an aircraft manufacturing unit in India. Embraer is globally known for producing business jets, commercial aircraft, and military aviation equipment, with the proposed facility expected to focus primarily on small and medium-sized passenger aircraft.
While Gujarat is also competing for the project, Andhra Pradesh has taken the lead by offering suitable land and infrastructure support. State officials have confirmed a positive response toward land allocation, stating that the project could attract investments worth several thousand crores and create large-scale direct and indirect employment opportunities. A final decision on the location is expected within the next month.
Proximity to Bengaluru a key advantage:
One of the major factors favouring Anantapur is the availability of vast contiguous land parcels, along with its close proximity to Bengaluru, India’s leading aerospace and technology hub. The state government has already initiated plans to develop the region into an aircraft manufacturing cluster.
In this direction, Bengaluru-based Sarla Aviation has received approval to manufacture electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The company plans to establish a six-seater aircraft manufacturing unit, branded as ‘Sky Factory’, with an investment of Rs 1,300 crore over 500 acres. The project aims to introduce air taxi services by 2029.
Anantapur poised for industrial transformation:
With additional vacant land available in the region, the government has proposed allotting space for a large-scale aircraft manufacturing facility. Plans are also underway to develop a mega industrial park across 20,000 acres, including 8,844 acres allocated to the Lepakshi Knowledge Hub near the Kodikonda check post in Sri Sathya Sai district.
Officials noted that the region’s connectivity, including its access to national highways and proximity to Kempegowda International Airport, has significantly enhanced its strategic importance. Land allotment will be finalized based on the specific requirements of the company. Overall, the proposed project is expected to be a major turning point in the industrial development of the Anantapur region.
