Hyderabad, Telangana, India:  IIT Hyderabad Student Edward Nathan Varghese Secures Rs 2.5 Crore Job Offer

Edward Nathan Varghese Sets New Placement Record at IIT Hyderabad with Rs 2.5 Crore Package

Edward Nathan Varghese, a 21-year-old final-year computer science engineering student, has created a new milestone at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) by receiving a record-breaking job offer of Rs 2.5 crore. This marks the highest compensation package awarded at the institute since it was established in 2008. The offer has been made by Optiver, an international trading company based in the Netherlands.

Edward is set to begin his role as a software engineer in July. He earned the offer after successfully converting a two-month summer internship into a pre-placement offer, outperforming another candidate who was also shortlisted during the internship selection. He credits his achievement to the strong reputation of IIT, its flexible academic structure, and the emphasis on coding and competitive programming from the early stages of his degree. According to media reports, Optiver was the only company he interviewed with during the placement season.

Born and raised in Hyderabad, Edward later completed his schooling in Bengaluru from classes 7 to 12. In 2022, he secured an All India Rank of 1100 in JEE Main and 558 in JEE Advanced. He also excelled in the 2025 Common Admission Test by scoring 99.96 percentile and achieving an overall rank of 120.

As highlighted on his LinkedIn profile, Edward served as the Overall Head of the Office of Career Services at IIT Hyderabad, where he managed a core team of eight student managers and coordinated the efforts of nearly 250 student coordinators across multiple cells to support placements and internships. Earlier, he worked for about eleven months as an Internship Cell Coordinator.

Sharing his interests, Edward stated that he is deeply engaged in algorithms, competitive programming, finance, and management, and looks forward to further exploring these areas while collaborating with peers who share similar interests.

Both of his parents, who are engineers, have expressed immense happiness and pride in his accomplishment.

Previously, the highest package offered at IIT Hyderabad stood at Rs 1.1 crore in 2017. During the 2023–24 academic year, the top offer was Rs 90 lakh, followed by Rs 66 lakh in 2024–25.
